Yes. That is what gscan2pdf does when it imports PDFs. PDF import support is their to allow gscan2pdf to reimport a PDF that it has previously written. Anything else is beyond the scope of a scanner frontend. If I wanted to fully support PDF, then I'd probably start by forking evince. Sorry to
