Here is my work around. Shell then ¨sudo dpkg --configure -a¨. Appears
to have finished the update from that point.

Yea, though it can be worked around. I think that what I did was drop
to a shell, did 'sudo apt-get install -f' and then going back to the
adept updater and finishing up.

apt-get shouldn't fail because of a bad package, only report it and
continue on. It should figure out whether the bad package is needed by
other packages and not install those. Forcing the other package is about
the only reason a user would need the command-line.
