For -intel especially, displayconfig-gtk doesn't work very well. The
new Screen Resolution applet should be much better (although see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config for remaining manual configuration
steps required.)
Also, displayconfig-gtk is being deprecated - see

can you attach your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and the output from `sudo
ddcprobe`, `sudo xresprobe intel`, and `xrandr`?
What happens if you run `xrandr --auto`?

original report, actually they sound like independent bugs. Could you
please file new bug reports on each of your issues, and please attach
your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file (and your original and/or working

resolution gutsy current as of this morning
I just tried to give a talk; booted up my laptop with the projector
plugged in. X wouldn't start, and instead I got display-config-gtk,
which would only let me set up both monitors
I have the same type of problem.
My main is an LCD and my second is a TV set (with SVIDEO)
I had to manually edit the resolutions and add the lines for the TV to work.

I have the same problem with 2 Monitors and NVIDIA 7300GS Cards.
The connected monitors are Yuraku MJ9CNK TFTs with 1280x1024 resolution.
They are not in the database so i have to choose Generic TFT with 1280x1024.
But i cannot select the Monitors.
It falls back to Plug and Play and lets me choose
