I can verify this problem still exists with the latest Linux kernel on an HP DV9700. Exiting to a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + F1) and then returning to X (Ctrl + Alt + F7) fixes the problem (until the next time I accidentally/purposely hit the caps lock again!) -- TouchPad crash when press caps lock
