I believe that this bug has been corrected in Ubuntu hardy
openoffice.org 1:2.4.0~rc2-1ubuntu3 so I am marking it as Fix Released.
If after upgrading you continue to have problems with this issue then
feel free to reopen this bug.

I am have the same problem i removed openoffice.org-gtk and was able to
access teh menu items but they were full screen and didn't look right. I
hope they fix this problem soon.

I reproduced the bug too on ubuntu 7.1 and OOo 2.3
Will it be fixed soon ? It's a bit of a problem if it appears OOo installed
automatically is an unstable version...

I reproduced the bug on my fresh Ubuntu 7.10 install, when I click on
the "Format", "Paragraph"; and on "Format", "Page".
OO.org crashes inmediately.

Same thing here, except:
* Caused by any menu item under "Insert", "Format" or "Tools" for me
* Caused by using any other theme than "Human" which was previously installed
through "Appearance"
Removing openoffice.org-gtk solves the problem for me.
