Have the same problem. It's just that xorg.conf gets overridden by
something. Evrytime i reboot my screen is down to 600 something. I have
a 1280x800 nvidia laptop. The problem occurs when I tried connecting a
projector trough displayconfig, and it sets the resolution to 600. But
then
i have clean gutsy installation on a hp dv6355us with ubuntu not saving
the resolution from screens and graphics, i've ran dpkg-reconfigure
xserver-xorg and everything. but everytime i log out or restart it
reverts to an lower resolution. this is a widescreen laptop.. i clicked

Sorry it took so long for me to get back on this...I upgraded. I found
out later that the gutsy upgrade tended to have some problems; took me a
good three hours to get X even to come back up on my old graphics card.

I'm having a similar problem. Ever since I upgraded to Gutsy, my screen
resolution drops to 1680x1050 from my monitor's native 1920x1200. Aside
from the screen space loss this causes everything to look nasty. I use
displayconfig-gtk to change the resolution back up to 1920x1200 and it
works
Sorry! I forgot to mention my hardware. I'm using a Dell 2407 WFP
monitor and a really old nVidia GeForce 3 using the nvidia drivers.

Hi Kim, everybody,
Try open nvidia-settings (type it on the terminal) and change resolution from
there. Make sure you hit the button Save to xorg... or whatever and it might
work this way. It did for me.
Let us know.

laramarvin,
I did that, but I have the same problem I did with my other new

Either it is a limitation of the nvidia binary driver, or some problem
with gnome-display-properties not applying the settings. Guessing the
latter :)
