The same problem in Linux Mint (Ubuntu derivative).
I think duplicates are showing when the same package exists in two or more
repos.
Synaptic is combining package with repo so if package exists in two repos then
the 4 identical packages are displayed (2 repos x 2 packages)...

Same here (Focal), every package is shown 2-5 times in the Synaptic
lists. I cleaned and reloaded all, no difference, the bug still occures.

It seems that bug in Debian is the same - see

I have the same behaviour also without apt-xapian-index installed,
mostly up to four duplicates but even eight occur (Ubuntu 16.04). But
it's only in the origin-section. All the others behave normally.
Synaptic is working ok for the rest, installing packages etc.

Anyone tried to fix this bug? I tried building with old ui files from trusty
and checked synaptic source without any success.
I think It maybe something with apt-xapian-index. Will try to downgrade it
today to take a look.

I suppose the xapian index is borked; i propose to purge (complete removal)
both synaptic and apt-xapian-index, then reinstall them.
Do you have some non genuine packages installed which could disturbate the
index ? (ppa, ...) or get some
muon package manager, witch also reads those sources and apt-xapian
index, shows no duplicates
