Ok, I've now built and tested a kernel with 4.4 + the below commit and
can confirm that this commit fixes the touchpad issue for me.

4.3.0-7 ubuntu - good (touchpad working)
4.5.0-040500rc3 - good (touchpad working)
4.4.0-4 ubuntu - bad (touchpad not working)
4.4.1-040401 - bad (touchpad not working)
4.5.0-040500rc1 - good (touchpad working)
Looks like a temporary regression in 4.4 - maybe we can bisect

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.5 kernel[0].
If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
