thanks for all the effort people have made to fix this. I just wanted to report
that I get something very similar to this in Hardy, but only when I first log
in.
That is, the windows that are automatically opened to restore the previous
session sometimes slightly overlap two worksp

The "workarounds" option in place has nothing to do with remembering
window positions, it is just causing a bug with the code for making
windows maximized.

In addition to my last comment:
It seems that compiz-plugins isn't a seperate project. So the place-plugin is
part of the compiz project itself. Therefore I will not change the list of
affected projects.

I noticed also the described behavior in hardy (up-to-date). It seems
that this wrong behavior is related to the "place" plugin. Therefore I
will add compiz-plugins to the affected packages. Furthermore I noticed
different effects that depend on places options. I will try to explain
this...

This is happening for me too. yaztromo seems to have it spot on. It
happens constantly with Nautilus. I've tried every setting I could find,

I have this bug too. It doesn't happen with all apps either, evolution

It's easy to reproduce:
1. Open Deluge/Pan/Filezilla/GQView (there are many more apps that it happens
in).
2. Maximize the window.
3. Close Application

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be the window manager's job to keep track
of where to put windows at the end of an close/open cycle. The question
must be _how_ the windows communicate where they want to be when they

I think I know what you mean, but I'm not sure it's a Compiz bug: some
windows (I notice particularly Banshee & Firefox) sometimes don't
properly maintain their maximised state over a close/open cycle. They
end up slightly larger than maximised, and so span two viewports.
Remembering a window's po
Compiz should be aware the borders of the current workspace and create
new windows within those borders, unless there is a special case where
the user chose to have the window opened over two workspaces. Say, if
the user have stored the windows position.

Travis, are you intentionally trying to avoid the problem or am I really

that this appears to be the DEFAULT ACTION for opening a new window in a

That's not true, it's perfectly valid to create a window that overlaps
