Thank you for your fast response. I have a bootable thumb drive (Ubuntu 16.04 iso) attempting to start in live mode to try and repair/replace my original grub (prior to slow down). When I attempted a boot from the usb drive (several times) it went straight to the ssd drive and booted from there.
