i can't install kde4 but i don't think it's for the same reason here's my

I had got the same issue, now (01/01/2008) I am able to install basic
kde packages.
However, I am not able to install some of additional kde4 packages such
as kopete-kde4. I get an problem with dependencies (libungif4g (=
4.1.4)). Maybe its another problem.

It's the same problem. basically libungif4g conflicts with libgif4. It's
good to know that libimlib2 now can exist with libgif4. However,
mencoder has not been fixed. So, mencoder is still not installable.

Yup the same for me. I did a fresh install of hardy alpha 2 and found
that kde4 was not installed, then I tried to follow the same rules for
gusty, and got the above errors.

Ah, then you should confirm the bug. Anyway mine's a fully updated Hardy
