better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the development version of Ubuntu, Hardy Heron?
I have the same problem in alpha 3
It seems that the problem was found in the past

desktop begins to show up and nothing happens. I can still move mouse,
but there is just plain brown background without anything

Console-based programs (sudo) and some graphical-based ones (gksudo) DO
work normally.
