Interestingly, I can no longer reproduce this, so I suspect the most
recent compiz update fixed it, but at the same time I've also re-
installed my hardy machine (which had previously been upgraded from
several earlier releases.

Yeah, this got fixed but the bug attached to it in the upload was a dupe
(or this was a dupe of that).
