2020-05-07 Thread snealon
I have an old Fujitsu Lifebook P701 running Ubuntu 20.04 which is experiencing the issue. The laptop doesn't dual-boot and runs Ubuntu only. @orlapa's link was very helpful. "GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=menu" was already set in /etc/default/grub so I added in back in the "GRUB_TERMINAL=console" entry.

Same issue with a Lenovo T450s (integrated Intel graphics) with a fresh 20.04 install next to Windows. At first, if I entered the bios config and then exited, I could get the grub menu as expected with a high resolution. I tried Alex Barris' suggestion and changed to Legacy/UEFI from UEFI only

Using Hybrid Boot (Legacy/UEFI) instead of just UEFI seems to have "worked around" the problem. Also saw somewhere else to disable PPT. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1863434 Title:

Another Lenovo ThinkPad T440s here. Can confirm I'm experiencing this issue as well with Ubuntu 20.04. Tried turning off "quiet" and "splash" and all I would get is a blank screen. I also tried turning off GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE, but still a blank screen. This device is dual-booted with Windows 10.

@swnw: Thanks for posting that link on "boot-repair" . . . I think I have an older version of it, but it didn't seem "easy" and it didn't always help out in my multi-boot situation. But, might be worth a try. Interesting that with a new install of ubuntu the problem reappeared, over the years
