Reverting to 3.36.0-1 fixed no sound for me (without reboot, just
restart clocks).

Presumably Fix Released for vala in Groovy, and if SRU verification is
successful then it'll also be Fix Released for vala in Focal, except
that Launchpad is not letting me add a Focal task.

Hello Timur, or anyone else affected,
Accepted gnome-clocks into focal-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
clocks/3.36.0-1ubuntu0.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.
Please help us by testing this new package.
(and vala is a Build-Depends and a rebuild is required)

So if I've got this right, this was caused by a regression in vala.
Good: 0.48.0-1; bad: 0.48.5-0ubuntu1; good (we assume, subject to SRU
verification of this fix): 0.48.6-0ubuntu1.

Thanks for reporting. I've added the tag `regression-update` since this
seems to be a bug introduced by an update.
(As an aside, I find this strange, because version 3.36.0-1ubuntu0.1
fixed bug 1873077 where the application simply crashed and it seemed to
do so for everyone. So I am curious why
