the prob exists in the software icon in my taskbar.
I actually use a mac them on gnome that comes as the default.
So the prob would be the *deb file when double click opens the
snap-store* which cant install a deb file. ok im clear sorry for the
confusion.

Sorry forgot to say that by issuing the following command in a terminal:
apt policy gnome-software
and
snap info snap-store
will confirm which applications are being used.

Stephen, there is no package called 'software' but one called gnome-
software which is provided by default in all GNOME based distributions
and one called ubuntu-software which is a transitional package in later
Ubuntu releases.

Thanks the launchpad site didnt let me say that package name I tried
software but it was telling me that didnt exist.
I ran
apport-collect 1886295
and my pc said no information collected.
the prob happens when gdebi is calling software.
gdebi works fine in terminal though.
