Why using snap in a first place? Emacs 27.1 is already available in
Debian testing - is there some ubuntu-specific screw-up which prevents
downstream porting?

OK, thanks, I filed a new Bug#1901776 and listed the package as "snap".
I hope that's right (I don't know what to do for snap bugs). If it's
wrong I hope someone advises me how to file a bug report correctly.

This is a known issue - https://github.com/alexmurray/emacs-
snap/issues/10 - unfortunately the nature of classic snaps and
fontconfig means there will always be incompatibilities between the
fontconfig library packaged in the snap and the hosts fontconfig
configuration. These are harmless
Marking this as invalid against emacs in Ubuntu since that corresponds
to the emacs deb not the snap. Please follow up via the existing (or a
new) github issue for snap specific issues.
