This bug is in KDE 3.5.10 (probably earlyer) not in kde 4. Ubuntu 8.04
LTS (mind the LTS) does not include KDE 4.
** Description changed:
Binary package hint: system-config-printer-kde
The program doesn't automatically update from processing to done

No. It was problem with KDE 4.1 in Intrepid too, which is in any case
irrelevant to the status of this bug. It is fixed in the development
release of Ubuntu, and so is considered Fix Released. For serious
bugs that may qualify for a stable release update (hint: this doesn't)

Well, help us non-standart-ubuntu-politicians: I (and I'm sure many
others) manage many ubuntu 8.4 installations. I still have this bug and
the fix in jaunty wont help unless of course I upgrade the complete
distribution ditching kde 3.5.10.
Where should we report the bug?
Thanks

This is the right place. It's just not the kind of thing we fix in old
releases.

This seems to have been fixed in Jaunty.
I suggest closing the bug if somebody else can confirm that it's
working..

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Kubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue
for you. Can you try with the latest Kubuntu release? Thanks in advance
** Changed
Yes it is still in 8.04. If there is a new version of the script, can
you post it or link to it? I do (and done) a lot of 8.04 installations,
and I would like to see this fix for 8.04.

I'm running Hardy w/ KDE4, and I replaced my script with the one that
was posted above. I got the following error:

Oh, I just saw that Pascal above got the same error, and blamed the
KDE4-only nature of the script. I've got both KDE 4.1.2 and 3.5.somthing
installed, so maybe that's where the path error comes from..

I confirm the fix if for KDE4 only. 3.5.10 still has this annoying
problem. I've tried to diff the scripts to port the fix but there are a
lot of differences and I don't really know python... Anyone?

It does not work on Kubuntu Hardy KDE 3.5.9 (seems to be KDE4 only). On
my machine the applet is informed about the job on the very first print:
the applet tray icon disappears as soon as the job is completed. After
that dbus does not seem to inform the applet that's why it is not
refreshing and

I cannot reproduce this with my ipp/remote cups network printer. What
hardware/ printer setup are you using Pascal?

I was using a HP Laserjet 4000 series printer over a windows _samba_
server.
I just now printed on a Samsung CLP-550n over a LPD queue. I experienced
the same problem. I have to manually select refresh for the program to
figure that the job has been printed.
I'm using a fully updated 64 bit
also, it continues so say a minute ago even though it's long after the
job being printed.
I think the list simply doesn't update continuously.

I see, it seems that the program does not update itself when there are
what it sees as active jobs,it relies on dbus to tell awake it when the
job is finished. If Dbus never awakes it, it will never refresh
anything! The function to refresh the times also relies on the actual
existence of a job I
If this crashes/messes up your system, either restore the old file from
a backup or simply reinstall the system-config-printer package.
I installed it and rebooted, but now nothing shows when I print. My
guess is that something went wrong :-)
