I have the same problem on a fresh Dell PowerEdge T105 server.
The LiveCD works well.
The server install stops at mounting the DVD drive; Mounting manually results
in invalid argument.

I'm experiencing this on hardy final alternate cdrom too. The debian
installer immediately stops when it tries to mount the cdrom. If I
switch to the console and try to mount the cdrom, if gives me the
invalid argument error.
On beta I was able to boot from the live environment, but was unable to

Hardy desktop (live) doesn't work either. I end up with an initramfs
prompt. Before that a lot of buffer I/O errors on device sr0 is shown
Gutsy alternate is working fine. Debian stable/testing both work fine
