Here we go again in Jaunty: Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Please get this race condition fixed.

Same problem, LUKS on a USB stick partition (not entire disk), enter
passphrase, drive disappears. I have re-visited this site several
times, trying several suggested remedies (not understanding them, mind
you). None have helped.
Running Hardy (8.04.02) on an Eee PC 900.

So here is one more workaround that at least improves things on my
machine:
Keep 'udevadm monitor' running in a root console the whole time.
It seems to change the timing of udev events and makes the problem
disappear. I doubt it works everywhere.

Peter, you beat me to it. I was reviewing Stefan Lechner's gnome-mount

Still happens per today, with Ubuntu Intrepid.
I found this bug rapport:

Maybe mark one of the bugs as a duplicate?
I've confirmed auto mounting is working as stated in bug #117011, __if__
you partition up your usb pen drive.
Strangely enough, I'm not encountering tis bug anymore - crypto-drives
autommount fine.

Yes, please fix this bug. Working with encrypted devices in Intrepid is
currently no pleasure.
