Same problem, LUKS on a USB stick partition (not entire disk), enter passphrase, drive disappears. I have re-visited this site several times, trying several suggested remedies (not understanding them, mind you). None have helped. Running Hardy (8.04.02) on an Eee PC 900. -- [Intrepid + Hardy]

So here is one more workaround that at least improves things on my machine: Keep 'udevadm monitor' running in a root console the whole time. It seems to change the timing of udev events and makes the problem disappear. I doubt it works everywhere. -- [Intrepid + Hardy] Regression: External
