Oddly, I am running the restricted drivers for ATI and having the same
problems. The Alt+SysReq feature won't stop the freeze, and it doesn't
eventually unfreeze on its own without a manually full-off request via
the hardware. I'm running fglrx, with an old ATI 9600 that ran fine with
some

I have the same problem on my persario v3113au laptop,
random freeze with 169.12 nvidia driver,
during the freeze, keyboard and mouse no response , cannot switch between
tty1~7, sounds like kernel panic.
no error message could be found on sys.log and kern.log.

nvidia-settings report a GPU temperature (during normal compiz enabled desktop
usage) of about 86-88 C.
I suppose this is a bit too high for normal usage. Are there anyone here who
has observed such high GPU temperatures?

[hardy] nvidia + compiz + xorg freezes for a few minutes
I keep having Hardy freeze up on me. So far each time I have been in
Firefox and the system locks up, no mouse, keyboard, or ctrl-alt-bksp
don't work. I have to hold the power button in to turn off when this
happens.
I suspect the Nvidia drivers (169.12) since I never had this problem
with Feisty
I realised that everything was going great with the free drivers but when I
started using the restricted ones (169.02) the freezes began.
So, that makes two of us.

I have never observed this behaviour on my 32-bit hardy desktop (AMD Athlon,
nvidia FX 5200).
My notebook (nvidia 6150), which is affected, is running 64-bit hardy (even
with latest nvidia-beta 173 driver).
Also nvidia-settings on desktop doesn't show Thermal Monitor whereas on the
notebook
I have the same problem with the nvidia 169.12 driver, with a GeForce

I'm subscribed to several different posts and bugs because there's a
weird pattern around this problem.
I have this lock-out when I use a restricted driver (either nvidia-glx-
new or a new one like version 173).
I have a Geforce 6100 and Hardy Heron.
I'll try to collect some info from the
I managed to reproduce this with metacity with compositing manager enabled.
Moving the windows briskly seems to increase the chance of a freeze.
