This is definitely a bug. The proper behavior stopped working after I
upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic. I am unable to activate the compose key
no matter what it is set at.
I ask for your help in resolving this bug. This is a very important
feature for me.

The problem went away. I only wonder why the ComposeKey stopped working
after the upgrade, and why it's working now.
