I managed to get ia32-libs installed yesterday by apt-get remove
lib32ssl0.9.8 first; I swear added that note to this bug report but I
don't see it. {shrug}
Perhaps it came in via a medibuntu package. In any case here is the
output of apt-cache policy lib32ssl0.9.8:

The problem is that ia32-libs is trying to overwrite a file that belongs
to a package called 'lib32ssl0.9.8'. Where did you install this package
from? I can't find it in any of the Ubuntu repositories. Could you
please type the following in to a terminal:
apt-cache policy lib32ssl0.9.8
