Using Intrepid alpha 5 and kernel 2.6.27-3, my nVidia GeForce 9800GS was detected fine, and once I installed the proprietary nVidia drivers and restarted X, everything worked as expected. I don't pretend to be an expert about Ubuntu... but do you have the latest kernel installed? I had a similar

Did you manually install the nvidia drivers at some point? NVidia X Server Settings is from the proprietary drivers, and they need to be reinstalled whenever you use change kernels, because they are compiled against the kernel thats currently running. Or are you using the linux-
