Can you comment if this is still an issue for you? I've got an Inspiron
1420 here as well and it's been running great as of Jaunty. I'm
currently running the latest Karmic Alpha releases and haven't had any
issues either.

For the record, I spent the past 30 minutes in Fedora 9 live, and there
was no sign of the fan really revving up. Even with heavy usage...

It should be noted that my wife has an identical Inspiron 1420n (ordered
a couple of weeks after mine) that does this exact same thing after
upgrading to 8.10 final.
Any help on this matter would be great. I am going to run a Fedora 9
live disc for a while to see if it causes the same issue.
