Since it seems you have a LG LW20 laptop I suggest adding the following
line to the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base (assuming you are still
using Intrepid Ibex):
options snd-hda-intel model=lg-lw
You can edit this using:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

open a terminal, cd to the directory where you saved it, and type chmod +x

terminal? Copy and past to gedit? I am a completely beginner (well 6 months
changing distros without success.
I already add the line you mention with gedit and followed all the other steps

to attach the results, copy from the terminal (command line) and paste into
gedit. then save as a file and attach that file
