Can you comment which specific kernel version you tested with for 9.04
(cat /proc/version_signature)? The reason I ask is this does indeed
sound similar to bug 193970 in which a fix was released in 2.6.28-9.29.

I tried both, 32 bit versions, here are my results:
8.10, 32 bit:
Once the switch is turned to the 'off' position, both wireless and bluetooth
turn off. When turned back 'on', bluetooth is enabled again, but wifi is not.
The module does not crash, though.

1. use rfkill switch to turn off wifi
2. suspend computer (sleep mode)
3. unsuspend computer
4. switch wifi back on with rfkill switch
5. the process hangs as described above
