Hi all,
I have the same problem, but the freezing is certainly not random.
It freezes when the program guide is changing program.
Maybe this helps to solve this bug.

I have tried the nv-driver. But it is limited to a resolution of 1280x768 :-(
So I immediately switched back to the nvidia-driver.

OK, I did a sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-common. Nothing visiual
happened, and I cannot purge the the nvidia-173-modaliases for
example. In the description of the package I cannot see a hint to a
conflict.

The modaliases provide a list of pci id's

Ah... I bet this is at least part of your issue. You have several
conflicting packages installed. Try this:
sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia-*
Followed by:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-180-modaliases nvidia-180-kernel-source
nvidia-glx-180 nvidia-settings sudo reboot

Prior to the reboot, reinstall all of them. It won't affect their

OK, this is what I did:
1.) I disabled the following three settings of nvidia-settings and wrote the
result into a new xorg.conf.
X Server XVideo Settings - Video Texture Adaptor - Sync to VBlank
X Server XVideo Settings - Video Blitter Adaptor - Sync to VBlank
OpenGL Settings - Performance -
Oh you only disabled VSync in Myth? You also need to disable it in the

at the same time. In other words the UseEvents option of xorg.conf was enabled
at the same time as Use OpenGL vsync was disabled in mythtv.
But for now I will reverse the changes, especially the playback profile,

Have you set UseEvents True in your Xorg? This is a common issue wth many
nvidia chipsets, and the UseEvents option usually fixes it right up.
Here is my nvidia optimized xorg device section:

(It is not only my issue, Jean-Yves Avenard suffers too.)
