I associate this behavior with eclipse's Link with Editor when I have
a large number of projects (200+) in my IDE, and I open a new file. The
search to locate and open the file in the Project Explorer can lock me
up for minutes at a time.

Just fixed this bug in my eclipse (64 bit, 16 GB RAM) by adding this to

Still persists, which is not surprising since nothing has been done
about this bug for over two years (which sadly is a growing trend for

This bug affects me, too. I tried to create a dump file or further information,
but the log file does not come up with any information about the freeze or kill.
I tried to kill it with kill -QUIT and kill -ABRT. QUIT didn't do anything,
ABRT killed eclipse, but there was no info about the kill.
I have the same problem on 10.10. I tried using all eclipses (original
3.5.2 from ubuntu, 3.6, 3.6.1, 3.6.2, 3.7 from eclipse org). It happens

You
@Asraniel, please use Eclipse from official Ubuntu repositories. This
is the actual official version of Eclipse tailored to work on Ubuntu
so you don't have problems you're apparently having right.
In case you're still encountering same problem, please report back with
output of lsb_release -c
Hi
Which versions of xulrunner do you have installed; which JVM do you use
to run eclipse? Which Ubuntu are you using (Karmic [09.10], Lucid
[10.04], Maverick, etc.)? Which version of eclipse do you have installed
and was it installed from Ubuntu's APT repositories or from eclipse.org?
~Niels
What us (developers) are supposed to do ? Because of that bug I loose a
lot of time!! Should I use WIndows to have a usable eclipse?
