This bug affects me, too. I tried to create a dump file or further information, but the log file does not come up with any information about the freeze or kill. I tried to kill it with kill -QUIT and kill -ABRT. QUIT didn't do anything, ABRT killed eclipse, but there was no info about the kill.

@Asraniel, please use Eclipse from official Ubuntu repositories. This is the actual official version of Eclipse tailored to work on Ubuntu so you don't have problems you're apparently having right. In case you're still encountering same problem, please report back with output of lsb_release -c
