Just wanted to reassert that the solution at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/355998/comments/22
solves this problem for Gigabeats. I just reinstalled a fresh 9.04
installation and the problem was still present.

usb-storage kernel module does not complete scan on
I have the same problem with a Sansa E250. lsusb shows the device. Dmesg shows
waiting to settle.
unloading and reloading usb_storage makes usb_storage recognise and mount both
drives.
I have tried with rockbox daily build using rockbox to charge and copy by usb
and also with sansa firmware -
Happens with me too. It worked perfect in 8.10.

There seems to be a parallel of this bug for Sansa users. Gigabeat is
addressed in the comments:

I cannot test this solution right now, but wanted to put it out there
for those following this bug. I will update if it solves
Joseph Wells' fix worked for me and my Gigabeat MEGF-40.

I tried uninstalling Rockbox and using MTP, but this doesn't work
either. . . Is there some way to force the drive to spin down so the
kernel can finish mounting?

I have the Gigabeat F20, same issue. waiting for device to settle,
does this mean the kernel is waiting for the drive to spin-down? The
Gigabeat won't spin down while it is connected.

As a workaround, I have been using my Windows XP virtual machine
(VirtualBox) and transferring music that way.

Yeah, I'm having this problem with my Gigabeat F40 but the thing is I
was using it by playing the music straight from the player with Rythmbox
and can't do this anymore. So it's not just about transfering the files
:/

This behavior has continued through to the release of Jaunty. The drive
works fine on Intrepid, and on Windows machines. Does anyone else have a
Toshiba mini drive (I think they're in iPods) and can confirm this?
