I dont think it is a duplicate of Bug #232172.
This bug can be fixed in this way.
su...@h3x:~$ sudo vim /etc/network/interfaces
Then change the file so that instead of
iface eth0 inet manual
The line contains
iface eth0 inet dhcp
Then save and exit. The problem should be fixed now.

Confirmed this bug. pppoeconf assumes eth0 will be configured manually,
while it is usually dhcp in most cases.

Im also affected by this bug.
Im using an ADSL box in bridge mode.
I used pppoeconf to configure my connection (which was successfull).
But its broken after each reboot.
ifconfig shows the right IP for ppp0
