Yes, X runs correctly, but when playing a movie, only sound can be
heard. The thumbnail is created normally, the size of the vlc XVideo
Output window is OK(I've tried it on vlc and totem), only the picture is
not visible. The output to terminal of Totem is identical with the
output with the driver
Please enable debug mode, and rebuild openchrome:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenChrome#Problems%20and%20solutions
Then run VLC/Totem and attach Xorg.0.log files.
Try to change the Video Output to for example xvideo (xv) or x11
