I am testing this in karmic alpha plus updates and do not have the
artifact rendering problem. I'm using the stock karmic nvidia
185.18.36-0ubuntu5 and not the one from your ppa. Is the version in
your ppa for jaunty or karmic? If there's a jaunty version, I'd be
willing to try it on jaunty.

I was using 173.xx and saw the same issue while running Ibex.
There are similar drawing issues that appear in the terminal while using VIM
as well. This leads me to believe its not an issue with OpenOffice
directly.
