Sounds promising. If you'd be willing, I'd be interested in hearing how
the latest Karmic Alpha 9.10 kernels do. Karmic is based on a 2.6.31
kernel. ISO images are available at
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/ . Definitely let us know

after 2/3 weeks with 2.6.30-020630-generic from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.30/ things got way better: only 1 oops (as
well as 1 unrelated lockup) in all the period rather than almost daily
as a gift I also get my laptop to actually power-off on shutdown; with
the stock

Still happening, though I must say I'm pretty confused.
I'm experiencing lots of oops, with occasional lockups. I can't even
guess what triggers them, I don't see a recurring behavior.
I noticed though that once I get a oops, I get notified the same one every
boot, until a new one happen.

@massimop, is possible for you to test with latest fully updated?
if the symptom still ocurrs, can you run this command from terminal
apport-collect -p linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic 364441
And could you also test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow
@pagun66: are you seeing the exact same issue? would it be possible for
you to report a new/different bug as you're seem to be using karmic ?
so we can check your logs and then dupe if needed.

I just received the 2.6.30-6 kernel update - first boot to a blank
screen, no way to recover, forced into hard reset. Second boot logged in
normally, but immediately received the bug again.

This time it was a no-boot situation. Twice in a row, the screen would
freeze before getting to the log in screen.
On the third try, I went into Recovery mode, ran apt-get update and apt-
get upgrade to no apparent effect. I then ran startx, which did get me

It has happened 2x in a row. I opened RhythmBox to see if my sound was
back, and had opened FireFox 3.10 and Thunderbird 2.0.0.21. I'll reboot
again and not open anything at all to see if it's being triggered by
these apps.
