Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hal
Since the fix at https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/368553 a bug in hal-system-smbios appeared that always reports that the rfkill switch is on, regardless of actual position. Quite a few users are affected, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7549951#post7549951 who downgrade 'hal' to a version that reports (due to a script error) that the rfkill switch is always off (so wireless regarded as always ON). A similar report is "dellWirelessCtl needed for Dell machines" https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/131835 though the workaround described in the bug description still does not make hal-system-smbios report the correct setting for rfkill. It might need some extra work in that direction. To verify the bug, $ sudo /usr/lib/hal/hal-system-smbios --st_wlan 1 Toggle the rfkill switch on your laptop and $ sudo /usr/lib/hal/hal-system-smbios --st_wlan 1 hal-system-smbios should report correctly the position of the rfkill switch (either 0 or 1). ** Affects: hal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- "hal-system-smbios --st_wlan" reports rfkill switch always on, nm-applet always disabled (wireless, dell laptops) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/394663 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
