I have tried to use gstreamer-codec-install but it always fails with
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'Object'.
My tests were:
$ gnome-codec-install 'gstreamer|0.10|totem|DivX MPEG-4 Version 5
decoder|decoder-video/x-divx, divxversion=(int)5'
And
$
The version info:
$ apt-cache show gnome-codec-install
Package: gnome-codec-install
Priority: optional
Section: universe/gnome
Installed-Size: 654

gnome-codec-install crashed with AttributeError: 'module' object has no

I have the same problem, and the output of the above command is:
/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/GnomeCodecInstall/MainWindow.py:300:

Hi Daniel, thanks for the bug report. Does it occur every time you try
to play a file of this type?
Could you run the following from a terminal (ApplicationsAccessoriesTerminal):
$ /usr/bin/gstreamer-codec-install gstreamer\|0.10\|Banshee\|Decodificador\
Windows\ Media\
