running this newer Karmic kernel from within a older Jaunty install.
Could you instead be willing to test with the latest Karmic Alpha 6

I can probably install the kernel, but I won't have access to a suitable
broadband connection for a few days. I'm at a rural work location, and
downloads bog down the company internet connection badly. It's very slow in

that kernel there.

Same problem with Jaunty on my EeePC 901. I'm running the 2.6.30 just
fine, but the 2.6.31 kernel just hangs on the splash screen (the screen
doesn't go blank, though). I had the same thing when I tried the rc8.
