I guess I've never tried 2.6.32-XX in Karmic but I doubt it would matter. I updated my Karmic to Lucid as soon as the tool-chain was released. The random lockups continued for about 4 to 6 weeks and now they're non- existent. I'm sure it's an Xorg thing and I wish I had the knowledge and the

I have this same experience with system lockup. In my case, there are no changes to the screen from whatever desktop was in use. My panel clock shows seconds and the numbers stop changing. I become aware of the lockup when I cannot move the mouse cursor. In addition, I cannot make the kernel magic

In my case I'm quite sure it's an Xorg issue for a couple of reasons: (a) I've tried the Karmic kernel in Jaunty and it does NOT cause any Hangs / Freezes / Lockups. (b) Using the Xorg-edgers PPA dramatically reduced the number/frequency of lockups. I know that I should try to follow up on this

Ditto here! No lockups in either Karmic or Mint Helena with the Xorg crack PPA. I think I will however remove that and try the more stable version they advertise just to see what happens. It'll be a bit before I can do so though because I'm currently fighting a problem I created with upstart.

It's way too early for me to say if it fixed it but I added the xorg- edger's ppa 2 days ago (on Karmic w/ newest official kernel) and I haven't had a lockup since. I also haven't updated anything from that ppa since then. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but knowing my luck I'll have a lockup five
