Never mind most of my last comment about the speakers. The speakers on
my laptop seem to be somewhat broken (hardware issue). However the hiss
through the headphones is still an real issue for me.

Recently behaviour in 11.04 has changed for me. Speakers no longer work.
When using headphones, there is a constant hiss through the headphones.
Reported Bug #779650 about this. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks EffE, assuming both alsa-infos were taken with headphones plugged
in, I do notice a difference in the way the speaker pin is muted - via
Amp-Out mute in the auto model and via Pin-ctl in the toshiba model. Can
you verify that this is what's causing the hiss?

Yeah David, both alsa-infos were taken with headphone plugged in.
I tried quickly and no one seems to affect the hiss. I admit to haven't tried
so much because I have a fly to Rio within few hours and I have many things to
do.
As soon as I can I'll check better. :)

Try the following (in Natty):
1) set the model to auto and reboot.
2) Check if it is working or not.
3) please attach an alsa-info with headphones plugged in in the

thanks for your interest on this old bug but unfortunately with the string
options snd-hda-intel model=auto the issue is still present.

Luckily the workaround proposed by Clay on post #12 (2010-09-09) still work.
