Thanks for reporting this bug to help making the -ati graphics driver
better. We hear from upstream that a number of bugs (possibly including
this one) have been fixed in the newer DRM code from the 2.6.33 kernel.
I don't know if your bug is one of the ones
I installed the -16 kernel, and now I have 1900x1200 back, on the radeon
driver, and *no* visible screen corruption.
So far, no problems -- except what to do with that much screen real
estate (I had gotten used to 1600x1200 already, under vesafb).

It sounds like there may be a few similar problems mentioned above. I
was also having problems, and started bug #521260. In that bug, it was
requested I try a mainline kernel. I did, and have not had any low-
graphics or non-display problems. I DO NOT know anything about the
innards of X, just
This may be related to my problem in which the enter key freezes ubuntu

I also have this bug in Lucid, but not in Karmic. In addition, when is
low graphics mode, suspend causes a failure. The only way out, other
than powering off is to press ctrl+alt+F2, with for the flash of colour
and then press ctrl+alt+delete. Doing it the other way around locks my
keyboard.
OK. I have this issue (ATI X1200). What I did to bypass:
1. copied the default XOrg configuration from /var/log/Xorg.*.log (it is
printed there) into /etc/X11/xorg.conf;
2. Edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and disabled the ATI driver section;
3. bounced X.
Now I am running with VESA, and can work
@pigimon: please keep in mind you are running _alpha_ 10.04. One should
expect breakages. It will be fixed, eventually.

pigimon, we are all waiting patiently for some fix to come along. For
now, it sounds like Tom is in the worst situation because of this bug.
At least I can still use my ubuntu.

Bryce,
Thank you for confirming this. Is there any known fix for this that I
can test out? Here's a more detailed account of what happens:
After running fsck at start up, I encountered this message:
Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode
Your screen, graphics card, and input device settings
Wow, is there really nothing that I can do about it?

I'm using the PPA from sevenmachines to even get my dual-SLI setup to
work in Lucid- I need to restart about 3 times to get a clean start
so I don't go into low-graphics mode. Startx will not work at all.
Xorg is stable for about 3~7 hours then crashes, at which time I go
thru the same 3

Dual Nvidia 9800GT Video cards
195.22 nvidia driver from PPA to even be able to use Lucid.
