Don't know. I reboot after any changes to the system kernel whether the
system suggests it or not. i have not moved onto Maverick.

I think what you are describing is the the screen being locked. If i am
correct you should be able to change this by going to
systempreferencesscreensaver, then uncheck the box that says lock
screen when screen saver is active.

No this is not screen locking. This was a bug that appeared with the
lastest release of the Linux Kernel. The updates were applied but the
system was not reboot bu the system updater. Athough I 'restarted' the
computer the issues did not disappear. Once I 'powered off' then
repowered
