Seems the 3d screensaver was to blame. After configuring the system to not launch any screensaver but just put the monitor to sleep the system didn't show the problem anymore. My guess is there is a bug in the video driver that shows when the 3d section of the video card is used. -- You

I experience exactly the same on Ubuntu 9.10 with the Core i3 540 processor on the P7H55-M PRO motherboard -- all are new, recently bought parts. I can confirm that it looks so that only the interface things freeze. One time such a freeze happened during a copying of a large amount of files.
