Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plymouth

I'm using the current version of Lucid, with all the updates installed
as the come in (initially installed from a clean boot) [Ubuntu lucid
(development branch) release 10.04]

When I boot up, around 4 times out of 5, I don't get as far as the login
screen. What I would expect to happen (and what happens on my laptop)
is the purple ubuntu logo appears, the red dots move along, and after a
short while the ubuntu login screen appears.

What actually happens on my desktop is either
(1) the red dots move along and keep going, for (over) an hour, either at
normal resolution or at a very low resolution
or
(2) I get an error saying /home (which is on a separate SATA hard disk) cannot
be mounted, however going into the manual settings none of the mount commands
seem to work (e.g. mount /dev/sdb1), the skip command has no function

It's strange how this only affects my PC, my laptop works fine.

If you need any more information, please ask (this is my first
handwritten bug report)...
