Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mountall
My system (running Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit Desktop) has partitions /, /var, /usr, /home, /boot, /tmp, and ben1 on a 2nd disk. At boot, fsck is run on all partitions, and all report clean, and are mounted successfully. The boot continues happily with several processes from /etc/init.d starting up OK. Then mountall goes through the whole process again, fscking everything and remounting all the partitions. The boot continues, with comments from some processes that they're already running. I've attached my boot log pasted directly from my serial-over-lan (SOL) console. I had mountall --debug in /etc/init/mountall.conf for this. Without this flag a different amount (slightly fewer) of my boot processes get completed before the 2nd fsck commences. I've studied mountall.c and although I'm stumped I suspect that the re- fsck may be caused by the 3 (second?) boredom timer timing out. If this is correct, the question becomes, why doesn't mountall exit when all the filesystems are mounted? I had a power failure recently. I don't know if that's relevant. That's when and why I started looking at boot logs closely. I have no idea if the system was doing this before the power failure....
