I've seen that the same problem was reported on the Debian bugtracker: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=586009 The problem is that mount.cifs appends a trailing slash to the share name in /etc/mtab which differs from the line in /etc/fstab. Adding the trailing slash in /etc/fstab

Same problem in Ubuntu 10.10, 64bit. When mounting from the console (as user), no problem. Umounting only as root. When mounting from gnome shortcuts menu, the pop-up error appears: Timeout waiting for mount to appear. No disk-icon on Desktop but the share is mounted correctly. Umount only
