I'm a little confused by the different reports in this ticket. Encrypted partitions are going to be very slow when handling p2p -- Vuze, Deluge, etc. are all bitten by this too. Encrypted partitions and randomized heavy disk IO do not get along well with one another. The recommended workaround

Same here: Ubuntu 10.10, preallocation makes system less responsive. Could we consider an option to allocate disk segments on demand? That way we would stretch the allocation task to the full time of download which should be less visible from the point of user's view. -- You received this bug

Here Ubuntu is using 3 partitions: swap, root and home. The last two are using ext3 v1.0. I haven't modified Transmission's settings and things downloaded by it (seem to) go straight into my home folder. If this is relevant: on the same HDD I have a few other partitions with a recovery utility,
