xorg automatic configuration on edgy 6.10 live CD- branch for
Having read the Xorg.0.log this looks like the following:
1. Xorg not starting in the built-in LCD but the external display: bug #22985 .
The MonitorLayout workaround applies to that bug, as well.
2. deactivating bootsplash makes consoles work again: bug #64787
I am not sure why the resolution
Yeah, my system is working after a ton fixing the automatic update, and
the bugs with the live CD seem to be just another example of 2 or 3
already known bugs, so I'll be ignoring it for now.

Thank you for your report. Lets try to get this a wee bit clearer:
1.) When booting ubuntu with boot splash screen, the computer goes dead.
This is just like in #67487 . I don't think the gfx chipset makes a big
difference.
2.) When disabling the bootsplash by using the nosplash kernel boot
Here's the log file, however, it's from after vesa was active. I'll go
back and get one from before I activate vesa and post later today.
Your statements seem essentially correct. The one thing I'm not certain
of is whether it's defaulting to an external monitor. I tried hooking up
a hi-def

So I changed the driver back to ati as originally was, added
option monitor layout LVDS,CRT
and the driver now works... sort of.
the resolution is now something horrible like 600x480 according to screen res
prefs (to me it looks a little bit higher, maybe 800x600. Perhaps
antialiasing?)
And I am not sure of the reason for safe graphics mode not working. I
will look into that next.
