Mark,
what versions of Shotwell and Ubuntu are you using? Are you seeing the
same crash others have reported here (SIGSEGV in
data_source_get_typename)?

When I press F5 to run a slideshow shotwell shows white screen with
mouse cursor. I can Alt-tab to other programs with no problems. I press
ESC to get out of slideshow and then Shotwell crashes.
