I just confirm on Lucid (10.04.2 LTS) that Skype's main binary must be
added to prelink's blacklist.
The proof is made by testing the blacklisting as it works (just add -b
/usr/bin/skype at the end of /etc/prelink.conf) and by understanding why
the other workaround (apt-get install --reinstall
Prelink is unsupported, and strongly discouraged, software which
undermines the address randomization security features of the Linux
kernel. No fix for this should be expected on the Skype side.

I experience the same trouble on 3 different computers.
I've blacklister skype in prelink. And it seems to work without reinstalling
skype since two days.
To blacklist skype, just add this line at the bottom of /etc/prelink.conf :
-b /usr/bin/skype

I agree with Bremm and Luigi, in effect the problem come from the
prelink daemon, i solved the problem with remove prelink or other
solution is no prelink skype packages and works fine.
Thx for all.

Same problem =( Works after reinstall of skype and/or dependence:
Зависимости: ia32-libs (= 20080808), lib32asound2 ( 1.0.22), lib32gcc1
(= 1:4.1.1), lib32stdc++6 (= 4.2.1), libc6-i386 (= 2.4)
I use this command to get it in one time:
sudo aptitude reinstall skype ia32-libs lib32asound2
I agree with Bremm. I think that is a prelink problem.
best regards,
luigi

By the way, this problem may be caused by prelink (daemon), since I have
to reinstall it every day.

$ mv .Skype .Skype.old
It didn't the trick.
$ apt-get install --reinstall skype
Reinstalling it scored the job. By the way, I already had the official
Ubuntu repo version (Xubuntu 11.04 here).

I confirm, I had same problem with official .deb package too. I had to
remove old .Skype settings folder.
Now no more faults (three days full use) by:
- removing .Skype forlder in user home
- reinstalling skype with apt-get install --reinstall skype (or maybe with
the official deb)

You
news... deleting the .Skype folder in user home directory, seems to fix
the problem
