I have almost the same symptoms here, with x86_64 11.10 running on on-
board graphics set nVidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430. For me, the side
and top bar, and the desktop are all blurred after resume from suspend,
although the unlock screen and the Dash window itself (but not other new
windows) are
I tested it again and exact opposite happened. Instead of sidebar and top-panel
getting blurred, this time the whole desktop, icons and all windows except side
and top-panel got blurred. (Ubuntu 11.10 Oneric Octet BETA 2)

This seems to be solved on new version of Unity in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric
Octet BETA 2. The sidebar as well as top panel appears perfect after
recovering back from sleep.

Just to update, this happens 100% of the time when resuming from suspend
or hibernate. I have to resort to `compiz --replace` every time to get
back to a usable system. If any dev wants additional debugging info
please let me know some instructions or steps you want me to take.

compiz --replace works to fix the problem after suspend. But as soon as
the next suspend/sleep the icons are again blurred.

This also happens whenever I switch workplaces vertically. The Unity
sidebar is fine for me, however the topbar panel is completely
impossible to read, as it becomes just black with what appears to be
blurred console text from the middle to the right.

I believe I may have just figured out a solution: When disabling Sync
to VBlank from ccsm OpenGL, the issue does not appear to be
happening. Tested a suspend and wake up, and this appears to be a fix
for the sleep issue as well. Can others test and see if this solution
works for them?

Just want to +1 this but I don't get blurriness, the panels just stop
rendering updates. When I sleep my Laptop (AMD Fusion C-50 based
chipset) the side-bar and the top menu-bar both remain static and stop
updating graphically, but seem to respond to input. A good example is
this:
